A nonprofit based in Philadelphia wants to assist Pennsylvanians who need a little help getting connected to benefits they may not know they are eligible for.

“Hundreds of millions of dollars of benefits that can help people buy groceries, get healthcare, heat their homes, go left on the table every year,” said Trooper Sanders, CEO of Benefits Data Trust, a nonprofit that helps people get connected to those benefits.

“There is absolutely no fee, we are a nonprofit. In Philadelphia, we work with the city of Philadelphia on the BenePhilly campaign and community-based organizations across the city to make sure that as many people as possible who are eligible for benefits, get them. It is at no cost. Just call us and we will try to help you,” Sanders added.

Sanders said more and more people have been trying to get help through them since the pandemic began.

“We have found that our call volume has increased in some cases 70 to 80 percent more than was the case before the pandemic erupted. We are staffing up, we are making ourselves available to the community,” he added.

He said when people call them, the nonprofit screens them to see what they might be eligible for and then help them apply for it.

In Philadelphia the number to call to connect with Benefits Data Trust is 1-833-373-5868. For the rest of the state, that number is 1-833-373-5869.
