Benefits Access in a Pandemic

While these past two months have brought unprecedented challenges for our nation, Benefits Data Trust (BDT) has been focused on connecting even more people to essential benefits that help pay for groceries, housing, healthcare, and more. Collaboration with Aetna Better Health to Address the Social Determinants of Health

Exciting news! BDT and Aetna Better Health of Pennsylvania (ABH-PA) have officially launched a major partnership that will help close to 100,000 ABH-PA Medicaid members access critical public benefit programs and stay enrolled in their healthcare coverage. Access to health insurance and programs that help individuals afford their basic needs is paramount to overall health and well-being. There is an abundance of research that demonstrates the link between public benefit participation, improved health outcomes, and lower healthcare costs.

This innovative payer-nonprofit collaboration is using data and conducting multi-channel outreach to:
  1. assist those who are recertifying for their Medicaid coverage, and
  2. provide individuals and families screening and application assistance for multiple public benefit programs, including the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

BDT’s latest COVID-19 Response Brief offers recommendations for state agencies and application assisters to facilitate telephonic assistance for SNAP, drawing on BDT’s 15+ years of experience helping people apply for SNAP and other benefits over the phone.
